ONE Partners with Social Media Moms

The grassroots organization ONE has been campaigning to fight extreme poverty and preventable disease, particularly in Africa, since 2002.  ONE’s latest effort, Make Every Day Mother’s Day, is raising awareness through a a combination of storytelling, blog posts and social media actions, with the goal of advocating for mothers in other parts of the world and the obstacles they face.

Earlier this week, ONE announced a partnership with eight social media moms, who will be writing about how motherhood has changed their view of the world. Their pieces will appear on ONE’s blog series, “Make Every Day Mother’s Day,” twice a week throughout the month.  The eight women involved include Jennifer James of MomBloggersClub.com, Lindsay Maines of RockandRollMama.com, Emily McKhann of The Motherhood.com, Elisa Morgan of FullFill.org, Cooper Munroe of TheMotherhood.com, Karen Walrond of Chookooloonks.com, Shayne Moore for GlobalSoccerMom.com, Rachel Fox,ONE Congressional District Leaders, and Jyl Johnson Pattee of MomItForward.com.

Maines is thrilled about the partnership:

“I’ve long believed in ONEs mission and admired them as an organization. To have a chance to meet other mothers and share their stories is an amazing opportunity, and I’m so grateful for it. Too often it seems like there’s many problems and no solutions, and this feels like being part of a solution.”

in July, six of these moms will be spending a week in Kenya to listen, learn and share stories with moms from all walks of life.  Walrond expresses her excitement:

“I’ve been a fan of ONE for some time, primarily because their work is advocacy and public awareness: they never ask for a dime of money, but instead, they use their completely nonpartisan influence to help persuade global leaders to focus on policies and programs designed to save lives, educate children, and generally improve futures — all causes I can certainly get behind. I’m honored to help ONE achieve their mission in any way I can.”

Pattee sums up her feelings about the power of ONE:

“Changing the world can feel overwhelming and dependent on great resources, primarily financial. But, ONE is proof that small and simple steps yield great results and that one signature, one letter, one voice can have a powerful and positive impact. I love that my one voice can make a difference!”
