Alisa Bowman, the writer of Project Happily Ever After – the blog and the book – appeared on The Today Show this morning with her husband, discussing how they saved their marriage instead of opting for divorce. Before the segment aired, Bowman warned her readers that newcomers would be arriving at the site, and some would likely criticize her. She shared her “9 Reasons To Not Retaliate” in a blog post yesterday.
Think of it as practice. I’m often preaching that retaliation is not the answer. Yet it’s not easy to hold back, especially when your spouse is spewing insults your way. If you practice not retaliating here on this site, it will strengthen the skill so you are better able to practice it at home, too.
Bowman’s book, released a few months ago, has received many positive reviews and features on blogs following her extensive outreach among online writers. This appearance on The Today Show could push the book’s sales up a notch. Bowman shared an insightful recap of her experience behind the scenes – down to her inner thoughts – in another post today.
In her warm, Southern twang [Ann Curry] said, “This segment is really going to help a lot of people. Let’s help a lot of people together.”
At the time of this writing, there are no angry comments on the latest post. Instead, new readers have discovered Bowman’s mission – to help people improve their marriages. This commenter was grateful:
Saw you on The Today Show this morning on a rare day off from work. Downloaded your [e-book] and read the whole thing today. Loved it and am inspired to work more on my own marriage. Thank you for a very well-written [e-book] with tons of practical advice. I am just discovering your blog now for the first time.
