Hello, FTC?! Kim Kardashian Gets $10,000/tweet

We really hope someone sees the irony here. Mom bloggers routinely get bashed and/or questioned by the media for not properly disclosing relationships with companies and yet reality TV stars like Kendra Wilkinson, Lauren Conrad, Khloe Kardashian, and Dr. Drew Pinsky are making a pretty penny per tweet for endorsements.

Inside Edition looked into the matter and claim that Kim Kardashian is the worst offender – raking in up to $10,000 per tweet through relationships contracted via Ad.ly, a company that connects advertisers and celebrity tweeters.

Endorsed tweets are supposed to come with the [ad] disclaimer, but many do not. If Kim’s 3 million followers are worth $10K, then are Dooce’s 1.6 million worth $5K?

We’ve seen smaller mom bloggers beginning to jump on the in-stream advertising bandwagon, obviously for a fraction of the price; which worries us that there will come a day when ads completely clutter up and overshadow the conversation.
