Cooking with fire and sharp instruments? While tanked? What could go wrong. For Hannah Hart, those ingredients that yielded a wildly popular YouTube stardom. Now Hart will be taking an offshoot of her successful “My Drunk Kitchen” video series on the road following an Indiegogo campaign that far exceeded her request for $50K. By the time the campaign closed on February 2nd, the campaign total had ballooned to almost a quarter of a million dollars, and the new Hello Harto! travel show was extended to international destinations.
Over 10,000 fans (who are referred to as Hartosexuals in a nod to Hart’s out queer awesomeness) contributed. In a fan-driven integration, rewards at all levels of donation included a vote on the map that will guide the Hello, Harto! tour stops. New shows will be recorded, and the tour has a major charitable focus, with fans completing volunteer projects together instead of gathering for typical meet-ups.
Hart told Tim Poon of Platform Nation about the decision to seek crowdfunding:
The other part was not necessarily wanting to be sponsored by a corporate entity. Though having worked with a sponsor before and finding it a perfectly fine experience, it was more that this was an event for the fans, so she wanted it to borne from the fans as well. Not looking for a “Safeway presents Hello, Harto” or “Hello, Harto presented by Coca-Cola,” this allows fans to be involved from the ground up. With the fans being the most important part of this to her, Hart wants the feeling to be folded back into all those inebriated kitchen dwellers.
