Hallmark has decided to tap into Facebook for Mother’s Day by creating a tab on their Page called “Meet My Mom.” The technology being used is a web-based platform called VWalls that gives users the ability to showcase content – from videos to posts to tweets – so that users can display special messages to their mom and then invite their friends to “meet” her.
Integrating with the social platform is a major change for the company and how it’s reaching out for Mother’s Day – a big holiday for the greeting card industry.
Last November the Facebook page only had around 250 fans, but now they’re close to 68,000. Pam Slay, senior vice president of program publicity at Hallmark Channels told MediaPost:
”We had to learn the secrets that this stuff has to be conversational. We start the conversation and get out of the way.”
As a side note: Hallmark is active in the mom blogging space and has sponsored conferences such as Blissdom ’10, as well as hosting events on their own.
