The first reality TV show focused on the lives of mom bloggers will begin preliminary casting at BlogHer ’10. Co-creators Leane Vandeman and Ciaran Blumenfeld will be on hand, along with a small production team, to start scouting potential cast members now that the show concept has a major production company behind it.
The concept is to showcase how women are using social tools to affect positive change whether in their own lives or for a greater cause.
“We know our community is really ripe for a show,” said Blumenfeld. “Everyone we speak to is so utterly enthusiastic because we’ll get to tell the mainstream media why we matter.”
The co-creators met through a Help A Mother Out diaper drive where the two found they were both passionate about storytelling. Vandeman has been a non-fiction producer for shows on networks such as Bravo, MTV and TLC, and Blumenfeld’s background is in writing and marketing.
Most of the details are still undecided, including the show’s format. The next steps include gathering footage and materials for the production company who will edit a reel that will then get shopped around to networks.
While the show is in the very early stages of development they’re beginning the search for a diverse group of women with compelling personalities and stories. Details on the casting call can be found on their just-launched Project Mom Casting Facebook page or on Twitter at @momcasting.
