Many bloggers have used their influence this holiday season to give back. Project 320 is another example: a collaboration of several bloggers who, for the second year in a row, are attempting to purchase a well with the help of their readers.
Last year, Project 320 hosted several generous giveaways, with the help of donated goods. Most giveaway packages featured handmade gifts. The hope for the giveaways was to have enough money to purchase one well. The project exceeded expectations and enough money was raised to purchase two wells. The wells were purchased through a vetted charity called charity:water.
Julie Carson, of Joy’s Hope, is one of the founders of Project 320. She describes the motivation behind the project:
“Water, water, water…
Is it fair that today I whine & worry over trees & toys,
when today 4500 moms just like me are worrying whether their children will live or die?
Over contaminated water?
When I think about how healthy and safe my family is, I have no worries.
I need nothing.
I am so blessed.
But those other moms need us.
Together, we can relieve some worry.”
This year, the Project 320 founders decided to open the project up to individual blogs to host giveaways. Entries to each giveaway require a $10 donation to charity water. Over the course of last week, over 20 blogs participated in hosting a giveaway. As of today, well over the funds for one well have been raised.
